The Early History of the LCMS


describing the conditions of German Lutheranism at the turn of the 19th Century leading to the immigration of the Saxons from Germany to America, to the founding of Synod (1847) and the first few years of Synod. Primary sources are presented from the teacher's translations of Walther's first publication, Der Lutheraner, as well as his early sermons and addressed. The challenges of forming a Synod in America in those years will be considered as well as the guiding principles followed in forming and organizing the Synod.
